The Sexy Detective Show
The Sexy Detective Show began in 2004, and the troupe has produced six seasons of their live theatre sketch shows as well as countries vide skits to date. They have used sold out seasons to hone their skills resulting in one sketch, “Special Guests”, being commissioned for youth show JTV and screening on ABC in late 2007. The Sexy Detective has a growing online presence. Their Youtube channel boasts sketches with hundreds of positive comments and thousands of hits. Amongst these skits is ‘Train Station’, which gained over 45,000 views after being featured on the front page of Australian YouTube in March 2008. A short film ‘Copy’, directed and co-written by Michael Griffin and starring the rest of the Sexy Detective team, was featured on the worldwide front page in October 2007, and at time of writing has been viewed nearly half a million times. The Sexy Detective Show consists of Luke Allan, Michael Griffin, David Massingham and Nigel McPaul. Both Michael and David have been in the troupe since its inception. The former is the group’s film director and editor, as well as a key writer and sometimes actor. Holding a Bachelor of Screen Production (Queensland College of Art, 2002), Michael has directed numerous music video clips and short films. He is employed by production company Hoodlum as an in-house editor, where he has worked on projects such as Home and Away, Spooks and Lost. A writer and actor in the troupe, David holds a diploma in Creative Industries (Drama) (Queensland University of Technology,2002), a Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing (QUT,2007), and has appeared in numerous theatre performances. He has also served as producer on past live Sexy Detective shows. Rounding out the company is Luke and Nigel, who both joined in 2005 to lend the group their writing and acting talents. Additionally, Michael, David, and Luke are all core members of the comedic improvisation troupe Impromafia. This wealth of experience combines to ensure that The Sexy Detective Show has high levels of acting, writing, and production.
