About The Comedy Channel programming

How can I obtain a copy of a show I saw on THE COMEDY CHANNEL?

Unfortunately we do not accept requests from viewers to sell or distribute copies of programs aired on THE COMEDY CHANNEL. THE COMEDY CHANNEL is only licensed to air programs/short films we buy and that's it. Selling or giving any of the on air material away would mean a breach of our contract which carries dire consequences such as the handing over of our first born.

That said, some distributors (such as Channel 4 in the UK) do sell some of their programs on video/DVD or sell program merchandise. Try searching on www.google.com or www.amazon.com and go from there.

Are THE COMEDY CHANNEL shows closed-captioned?

Yes, some shows are Closed Captioned. You can to set up the Closed Captioning in the digital set up guide and this will automatically bring up Closed Captioning when it is available. We're always working hard to make more of our programming Closed Captioned.

How do new shows get chosen and when do new shows get aired on THE COMEDY CHANNEL?

Ultimately the shows on THE COMEDY CHANNEL are chosen by the Programming Department and Management. All shows are viewed with groups to gauge a wide variety of tastes. If all groups agree (and importantly laugh while viewing) then it's a pretty good sign that the show will suit the channel. It can take a couple of months before it then makes it on air due to contractual reasons and that many of the shows are from overseas so they take a while to arrive.

Our objective is to provide a complete comedy program schedule that showcases the best from Australia and around the world. Comedy is often by its very nature, irreverent, politically incorrect and alternative - as a consequence, our programming tends to be more risqué and controversial than many other channels. Comedy is also incredibly subjective - there are some shows you will like and some that you don't, which makes sense. We are very interested in understanding what our audience like and dislike with viewer feedback easily the best way to note trends. Suggestions are passed on with many of our programming choices and adjustment decisions based on what you guys want.

How long after Jay, Conan, Fallon The Daily Show, and Colbert episodes air in the States do the shows air on THE COMEDY CHANNEL?

Literally hours. Most satellite shows are recorded here as they go to air in the States. Then we edit and check the episode for errors before putting it to air that night (or the next week day if it's a USA Friday episode - Friday in the USA = Saturday in Australia). If this is confusing just keep in mind that we are about 14 - 17 hours ahead of the US so for example when their 10th of July episode is airing in the US it's the afternoon on the 11th of July here.

Why did you repeat tonight's Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Fallon, The Daily Show, Colbert episode?

Jay, Conan, Jimmy, Jon and Stephen do holiday occasionally - referred to as hiatus in the States - in which case we select an episode that we think is a good one or that viewers have requested from the last 3 months and air that popular episode. There are other reasons we may have to repeat an episode and these include:

  • The episode had satellite transmission problems and was too faulty to air.
  • There are clearance issues in the States and NBC aren't letting the episode be seen outside the US (e.g. the musical guest doesn't want to be seen outside the US or with the Winter Olympics, Channel 7's coverage rights meant we couldn't air anything to do with the Olympics).
  • The feed from the satellite came through too late therefore requiring us to air another episode
How can I find out what guests are coming up on your USA satellite shows?

The simplest way is to check the information on your Electronic program guide (right on your TV!) or check the schedule listings on THE COMEDY CHANNEL website as this information is constantly updated as soon as it is made available.

Who makes the local productions on THE COMEDY CHANNEL?

Local productions are produced in-house or commissioned by external production companies.
